Pennant St.

We counted seven Vespas inside the home at our first client meeting. We knew we needed to solve a bigger problem than the simple extension on a period home that was described by our clients.

A solution has been developed that allows for the classic bikes and associated paraphernalia to become part of the architectural design in a controlled and playful way. The mix of industrial materials and framing of incomplete vespas and is contrasted with the polished refinement of the completed bikes. This became the theme for the interior design of the living spaces.

We selected a dark brown brick to emphasise the industrial roots of the workshop for the house and to provide a contrast to the lighter finished cabinetwork and ceilings. The bricks fold down and over in the entry space which forms a dramatic threshold space between the old and the new.
